The penultimate game of the season has arrived and with Liam being called up to the first team this meant that experienced Rob Meredith would be captain in what will be his last game for the club before he goes and enjoys his retirement.
Of course Rob won the toss and decided to get the thing he hated most out of the way and decided to have a bat.
AJ and Oliver Dunn opened the batting and gave Clifton a solid start before AJ fell for 13 with the score at 30-1. Dunny continued his positive batting and looked extremely comfortable playing some lovely shots before he was struck on the pad for a well made 44. Once again Dan and Jordy had another 50 partnership before dan went for 15. Jordy brought up another half century to continue in good form and some runs late on from Lewis (27) Jack Barton (24) and Oscar (19*) meant Clifton reached an excellent score of 223.
With the target set at 224 South West Manchester knew they had to score quickly they struggled to do this as Toms opening spell picking up their first 3 batsmen in his 7 overs catches by Judgey, Dan and a brilliant catch by AJ. Lewis and Dan replaced the openers and bowled nicely. Lewis picked up a wicket caught by Rob Meredith to start the fairytale ending. Jordy then came on and picked up 2 wickets in his spell, one caught by Oliver Dunn who dove like a dolphin taking a worldie diving to his right and catching it onehanded at mid-wicket. Next to come on to bowl was Mr. Meredith and it wasn't long before he got a wicket as the batsmen fell right into his trap and was caught at cow corner by Jordan Higham. An over later the same thing happened Rob set the trap and another batsmen fell into it caught by Jordy once again. Oscar then finished off the job picking up the final wicket as the visitors were bowled out for 148 and Clifton claimed another 6 point win.
Rob then led the players off the field for one last time and got a very well earned round off applause by the players from both sides and the supporters who had made their way up to the changing room to give Rob the acclaim he deserved.
One game to go in the season as the 2s travel to Little Hulton hoping to keep the long unbeaten run going.
