251 Reasons to Believe: Seconds March On Toward Promotion
The seconds continued their record breaking season on Saturday, with the memory of the miserable losing season of 2022 a distant memory, as Steve McManus (168) and Jordy Higham (104) posted what is 99% certain to have been a club record partnership of 251 as the side posted 336-4.
What is more remarkable is that Jordy did not enter the fray until the 13th over and that the partnership was constructed in just 173 legitimate deliveries. Club partnership records don't actually exist, but given the high score records, it's highly unlikely that any of those contained a partnership of that magnitude.
For the record, Westleigh bravely attacked their impossible task with gusto, amid moaning about their captain's decision to insert Dorsey's devils, and it wasn't their fault that the league inexplicably decided to demote the team from division 5 to the new division 6, where they have been imperious all season, after last season's 3rd place finish.
The current 25 point gap for a promotion spot should change that this season with only 35 points to play for. Westleigh managed 157 in reply with spin twins Dorsey (4-25) and Hogben (3-11) taking the plaudits.
