Captain’s Knock in Vain as Thirds Come Unstuck at The Green
Steve Mac's men lost top top in the Sunday Premier division after a lacklustre performance saw them slump to a 25 run defeat at Roe Green. To be fair, the hosts edged it with bat, ball and in the fielding department, despite a gallant 59 from the skipper being the top score of the match.
It all started so well as young Oscar took two wickets in his first over to leave the hosts on 1-2, and both openers with 0s to their names. The Green grafted away though and the next five batsmen all registered double figures in partnerships in the 20s and 30s as some wayward bowling gave away easy runs. Barty deciding to stop one drive at cover point with his head, delayed the game for a few moments before a couple of smart run outs and a couple for Owen ended the innings on 141.
For the umpteenth time this season, every bowler tasted success with Ollie Dunn taking his first wicket for more years than he'd care to remember.
In reply, only Steve really got going, though Sam's 17 briefly threatened the Green's total in a stand that took the score to 58-1, but after that, only Barty managed double figures as batsmen came and went in the face of what was a decent bowling and fielding effort from the hosts.
So, bad day at the office was the outcome as the thirds failed to make it a clean sweep for the weekend's senior sides.
