Sun Shines, Clifton Dominates: Semi-Finals Here We Come
For the second Sunday in succession, the Clifton faithful turned out at Heywood to witness a convincing Cup win over the home side. In stark contrast to last week, the sun graced us with its presence as the home side won the toss and decided to have a bat.
Runs were at an absolute premium as Tom and Rob applied the stranglehold, backed up by some lively fielding, so that by the time Lewis came on first change, only 33 runs had come from 14 overs. Lewis then took a wicket with his first ball, but then became a little wayward and conceded a string of boundaries. The response from Liam was to introduce Dan who moved the ball prodigiously, resulting in stats of 4-12 off his seven overs. Liam chipped in with three more as once again, all the bowlers except Rob; probably because the batsmen couldn't lay bat on ball, claimed at least one scalp.
The final score of 100 never looked like it was going to be a problem and so it proved as Ethan (35no), Sam (25) and Dan (37no) eased the team into the semi-final with a big win over a team from a higher division.
Hoping for a home tie in the semis where Bury, Dukinfield or Bolton Indians await to try and wrestle away our 2024 crown.
