Clifton Come Up Short at Shaw
For the second year in succession, the firsts came away from Shaw with nothing after another under-par performance. It all started well enough when Ollie Sleight collected five wickets in helping to reduce the home side to 127-7 on a flat track in blazing sunshine. However, an eighth wicket partnership of 78 in 11 overs allowed them to reach 206 at tea.
A quick play-cricket check revealed that this was the second lowest total in the Premier League on a day of hard batting surfaces and outfield of glass, but after a couple of questionable dismissals, the remaining batsmen seemed incapable or unwilling to hit the ball along the floor with nine catches being taken (and a couple dropped) to add to Sam Dorsey's thigh high LBW decision.
The idea of pushing the ball around and taking ones and twos seems to be a foreign principle at the moment and a very ordinary looking bowling attack were able to secure a 80 run victory with Sam's boys being bundled out for just 126.
