Perfect Ending for 1st XI
Our 1st XI completed their 2024 season on a pleasant Saturday afternoon at Manchester Road with a 10 wicket win over visitors Denton West CC.
Richard's men put on a fine performance in front of the home support to finish 3rd in the GMCL Premier League, their highest position since the leagues inception.
Denton West won the toss and elected to bat on a green seamer and that quickly looked like a bad decision as they found themselves on 38/3. Denton's sub Pro (92) did dig in and made a good fist of putting on a respectful score, blazing boundaries all around the ground. However, wickets did fall at regular intervals, and nobody could hang around with him. With Richard changing the bowling and giving Sam Dorsey a rare run out, Denton West ended their innings on 171.
In return, Joe Settle (104*) and Sam Dorsey (53* put on a masterclass in a match winning partnership of 172 inside 26 overs.
Joe's hundred was the first for the club showing his full array of stroke play and big hitting. Of which was the winning shot for six onto Manchester Road.
Again an improved campaign for the 1s and one that Richard will feel will be a good base to progress the team in 2025.
