Match Report Sat 7 September: 2nd XI vs Golborne CC 2nd XI (Home)

No Time For 'Nifty Fifty'

The two's mirrored the first XI's emphatic display at home to a poor Golborne side who struggled against the nagging line and length of skipper for the day Rob Meredith, with figures of 5/11 from 12 overs.
Rob was equally backed by his junior counterparts, Tom Worthington, 1/19 from 7 overs and Lewis Keogh, 2/7 from 6 overs. Jordry and Elliot also making sure no bowler went home unrewarded.
Golbourne managed to get to 44 in their innings, which in all honesty did flatter them.

In reply, Steve McManus (41*) took the Golbourne bowling apart. Even to the point that one of the Goldbourne fielders announced that Steve looked like he was in for a *'Nifty Fifty', only to be reminded that the chase was 44 runs! The runs were chased down in the 8th over.

*The term 'Nifty Fifty' was an informal designation for a group of roughly fifty large-cap stocks on the New York Stock Exchange in the 1960s and 1970s that were widely regarded as solid buy and hold growth stocks, or "Blue-chip" stocks.
