2s Have Day to Forget

Clifton lost the toss and were put in to bat on a wicket that didn’t look too bad.

Ethan and Steve opened up and very quickly we learnt that the wicket wasn’t as good as it looks with the ball popping up near the batsman's chest from full deliveries. Unfortunately, Steve (10) fell to one of these balls as it flicked his glove on the way through and Clifton were 19-1. Mason joined Ethan at the crease and they built a steady partnership until Ethan fell for 26. 75-2 was then made 90-3 and then 90-4 when Sam (3) and mason (41) fell quickly one after. Owen and captain Liam met at the crease and steadied the ship but never really kicked on taking us to 138-5 before Liam fell for 21. Owen Followed Liam back to the changing room a couple of overs later for steady 27. Lewis (8*) and tom (2*) finished our 45 overs at the crease leaving Clifton 154-6 and feeling they were 30 runs away from where they wanted to be. Mason was probably the stand out batter in our innings with 41 but no one really got going and made a large score.

Rob opened the bowling and when his first over went for 15 Clifton knew the way they wanted to bat. In Rob’s second over his first ball went for 6 and there was some worried faces that it could go for more than his first but Mr experience picked up a big wicket and Clifton were lifted again. A couple of overs later Rob picked up his 2nd and SWM were 40-2 after 4.2. Mason took Tom’s (0-15) spot and came on to bowl and got a wicket in his 3rd over and then on came the inform Lewis Keogh for Rob (31-2).

Lewis picked up a wicket and then so did Liam a couple of overs later leaving them 100-5 and it looked like we had a game on. Lewis (27-2) picked up his 2nd to leave them 121-6 but needing 30 to win their Captain came to the crease and sailed the ship home quite comfortably.

A poor performance from the 2s with no one standing out with the bat or the ball and a disappointing result to go with it.
