1st XI Were 'Shaw' Not Good Enough

It was an all-round shocker of a day at the office for the firsts in the hills overlooking Oldham at Shaw CC on Saturday.

A plethora of half-volleys, full-tosses and half trackers allowed the home side to put together a succession of partnerships after a good start saw them on 24-2, with the final, unbroken 7th wicket partnership of 35 in quick time, nailing the coffin tight shut on 222-7, despite three wickets apiece for Ben Hamilton and Richard Dempster. It was a total that was never seriously challenged as a partnership of 41 between Sam Dorsey (28) and Ryan Ayres (31) was all that the visitors could muster in reply.

The Shaw pro mopped up with six wickets, more or less handed to him on a plate, as the innings closed on 142. Matt Howarth (24) and Mason Turner (20) showed some late resistance, but in truth, this was a day best forgotten as the side that marmalised Roe Green last week simply didn’t turn up.

The ‘away’ form is becoming a bit of a concern now, with only four wins out of ten all season, in cup & league, wheras it’s eight out of nine at home. Bradshaw will become visitors number ten next week, and they’ll be looking for the five points that will possibly take them out of the bottom three.
