The firsts managed a second home demolition of the top two by following up the early season 97 run win over Edgworth with a comprehensive trouncing of Roe Green on Saturday. After convincing the umpires, who seemed to think that a few spots of rain would melt them, to ‘get the game on’, Richard Dempster tore into the prolific Roe Green upper order, removing the first four batsmen with just 31 on the board after the ‘Green’ had won the toss and elected to bat. Without the services of Danny Higham and with Ryan Ayres unusually firing blanks, up stepped Ben Hamilton (4-33) to continue the work in reducing them to 48-6 and 60-7, before a patient partnership of 42 took the score over 100. Partnership breaker Mason Turner ended that annoyance and Sam Dorsey produced a boundary direct hit with one stump to aim at, that was worth the admission money alone, to send the ‘not very dangerous’ Andy Hough back to the pavvy as the innings closed on 115. The batsmen then cruised to victory, with Joe Settle and Max Meyer scoring 24 apiece and Sam (33no) and Ryan (29no) securing the eight wicket win with 22 overs to spare. Edgworth’s win puts them five points clear of champions Roe Green with Richard’s men a further two points behind and rueing some inconsistent lapses during June. A trip to the delights of Shaw awaits next week, whilst the top two face in-form Denton West and a Flixton side who can beat anyone on their day. All to play for.
