Max Goes Big! Very Big!!

On the second part of the double header weekend Clifton welcomed Westhoughton to Manchester Road after a successful away win on Saturday. The forecast was looking iffy with rain due to come in the afternoon so it was possible that we were in for a stop and start game.

The Clifton skipper won the toss and elected to bat, which was smart with the upcoming forecast. Clifton lost Dorsey early in the innings bringing Meyer in to bat with a score of 15/1. It wasn’t long before Settle was dismissed too, bringing Clifton’s Pro up to bat. The partnership between Meyer and Ayres worked well. Ayres was dismissed later in the innings with a score of 68, leaving the overall score at 194/3. Hamilton was next into bat and himself and Meyer saw the rest of the innings through with Meyer (150*) not only hitting his first 100 for the club but his first 150, leaving Clifton with a total score of 284/4 after Hamilton was bowled in the last ball of the innings.

Throughout the break there was a short spell of rain, but luckily caused no delay to the second innings. The innings started well for Clifton with both Higham and Ayres taking wickets early, leaving Westhoughton with a score of 6/2. Westhoughton’s Pro came in and started hitting well, but his team mates couldn’t withstand the excellent quality of the Clifton fielding, even if they did find time for a rest (Pictured) when team mates were looking for the ball, which was dispatched aggressively by the Westhoughton Pro. He found his way to 100* in 59 balls, hitting 9 fours and 6 sixes along the way. He was unfortunately for him left standing in the 30th over as the game came to a close with Clifton winning by a massive 140 runs.

Clifton came out on top this weekend by winning a full 10/10 points putting the team into 3rd in the league table.
