The thirds seriously challenged the 2nds bragging rights for performance of the weekend, with a comprehensive win over Sunday Premier league leaders Roe Green.
With most of the ‘Greeners’ absent at the GMCL20 finals, it was a curiously calm and subdued arena that greeted Steve McManus and Ethan Kite after the home side make their first error of the day in winning the toss and deciding to field. 129 runs later, they finally broke through when Ethan Kite was dismissed. To rub salt into the wounds, that was the exact score that the home side would later amass. Stevie Mac’s thirds still had some twelve overs left though and, although many batsmen would be sacrificed in the run fest, a further 114 runs were added, with Jordy Higham contributing 56 in 26 balls and Steve finally falling for 86 scored at exactly a run a ball.
The better than run a ball total of 243 was never seriously threatened as Lewis Keogh (Pictured in action) and Tom Worthington secured early strikes to leave the reply in tatters at 16-3. Mirroring events at Trent Bridge, every West Indies wicket was followed by a Roe Green scalp as, once again, every bowler took at least one wicket with Lewis perhaps shading the honours list with his 2-18 off seven overs, by virtue of those two wickets being from the top three batsmen. Greenfield’s defeat means Mac’s men are now the only unbeaten team in the league, but with games already in hand and another cancellation next week due to the 2nds cup semi final, the only concern is a fixture backlog and insufficient dates to complete the list.
