AUTUMN 2015

It’s an interesting looking set up for the 2nds and 3rds in the new GMCL set up as the seconds find themselves in the third tier, just one tier behind the 1st XIs of the likes of Radcliffe and Walshaw. They will play both Deane and Derbyand Irlam 1st XIs and continue the relationship with Heywood and Unsworth 2nds. Edgworth and A&T will make a return to Clifton after a ten year gap and the remaining five 2nd XIs will be new territory for Mozzer’s double winners. The thirds will have the unique experience of playing in an entirely 3rd XI division for the first time ever with not one single club renewing acquaintances from 2015, although four of the sides have been in opposition at various stages of the NMCL campaigns. Exciting times ahead. Roll on April!

WELCOME to Liam Hurt who has committed to the club for 2016. The club is delighted to have secured his services from under the noses of several other clubs having left Ormskirk at the end of the Summer. Liam, who also plays for Leicestershire 2nd XI, is a medium quick right arm opening bowler whom, reputation has it, will also be threatening passing traffic when he bats

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING sets the GMCL agenda.

There was a great turnout for the 2015 AGM despite the filthy night, as the excitement builds towards the new Greater Manchester Cricket League in April. A number of people committed themselves to committee work including several young players. Not only do we have the youngest 1st XI in the league but probably the youngest committee as well.

Congratulation to Gareth Cross who has cemented his return to Clifton by being elected Captain for 2016. Nick Flaxman was the only captain to stay in post as Liam Dorsey takes over the 2nd XI captaincy with some big boots to fill. Congratulations also to three new vice-captains in Dean Morris, Jim Ainscough and Gary Royle. A full list of club officials will be posted on the officials’ page in due course.
